Overview

Supervisor Title Academic Success and Support Services Specialist

Description of Job Duties

Student tutors work with their peers to discuss content information in particular courses in the Library Learning Commons. Tutors only tutor by appointment. Applicants are strongly encouraged to tutor multiple courses/subject areas, and will be asked to indicate particular courses they feel most comfortable to tutor.

Tutor Primary Activities:

  • Aid students with content information and provide study strategy assistance for students who seek assistance.
  • Maintain appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to staff, students, and others.
  • Participate in all scheduled tutor meetings and complete mandatory training prior to the first tutoring session.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Training

  • New and re-hired employees must complete all onboarding tasks assigned by HR before they can begin working.
  • Training will be provided and is mandatory for all student tutors.
  • Training will be paid at the position’s hourly rate.
  • Students who do not complete training as scheduled, will not continue working in the position.

Job Qualifications

Tutor Qualifications:

  • Current NCC student with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above is required.
  • A grade of 3.0 or above in the tutor’s selected course(s) is preferred; prior enrollment with the professor who is to teach the selected course is preferred.
  • Content-competency required.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills required.
