| Weekly tasks include identifying and counting insects using a microscope, assisting in collecting samples (leaves and insects) from pecan orchards across south Georgia, keeping up with the pecan orchards at UGA Ponder farm. Assist in creating field trials and building or putting out traps in the field.

Position Summary:The Tree Nut entomology lab looks at how to best manage insect pests in pecan orchards. Current tasks include collecting and processing leaf and insect samples, building and deploying traps in pecan orchards, and conducting field trials (collecting field data from traps or direct observations). Specific tasks include identifying insects using a microscope, scout pecan orchards, traveling to collect samples across south Georgia and other duties related to entomological field research (including maintenance of the entomology research block at Ponder Farm in Tifton, GA).

Physical Demands:Driving. The employee must look through a microscope for hours at a time in order to do insect counts. They will work outside in the heat, stand and walk or be on their feet for long periods of time.
