Job summary

Flathead Valley Community College is seeking a part-time Student Wellness Assistant to start Fall 2026 on FVCC's campus.

Under the supervision of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Coordinator, you will engage fellow students in wellness programs, assist at the front desk, and help plan and staff events in the Furlong Smith Fitness Center. The role requires 5–10 hours weekly, a 6-credit minimum and a 2.5 GPA; flexibility, teamwork and a customer-service approach are essential.

Qualifications

  • FVCC student enrolled in 6+ credits with GPA 2.5.
  • Basic office and technology skills; willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students in wellness programs and activities.
  • Attend mandatory weekly team meetings.
  • Complete a minimum of 4 hours per week in the Furlong Smith Fitness Center planning and programming wellness activities, staffing the front desk, and checking in members.
  • Participate in monthly trainings on health-related topics.
  • Conduct research on health and wellness topics.
  • Develop and lead 1–2 wellness activities per semester.
  • Support and/or co-facilitate wellness activities.
  • Create one topic-specific bulletin board per semester.
  • Refer students to community/campus resources as required.
  • May perform other duties as requested.

Job description

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all current FVCC Students enrolled in 6 Credits per Semester with a maintained GPA of 2.5

START DATE:

This position will start Fall 2026

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:

Academic Calendar Year 2026/2027

WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible schedule between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; occasional evenings past 7:00 p.m. and weekends for special events. This position works 5-10 hours per week; it may not work over 19 hours per week.

DRESS CODE:

Business casual with appropriate coverage, FVCC Student Wellness Team branded attire at Student Wellness Team activities/events, and a name tag in the Furlong Smith Fitness Center located in the Wachholz College Center.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Under the supervision of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Coordinator, performs the following duties:
  • Engage students in programs and activities actively and consistently
  • Attend mandatory weekly team meeting
  • Complete a minimum of 4 hours a week in the Furlong Smith Fitness Center planning and programming wellness activities and/or events, staffing the front desk, and checking in members.
  • Participate in monthly trainings on health-related topics
  • Conduct research on health and wellness topics
  • Develop and lead 1-2 wellness activities per semester
  • Support and/or co-facilitate in all student wellness activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current FVCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a maintained GPA of 2.5, and
  • Basic office and technology skills, and willingness to learn new programs, and
  • Ability to work independently or as a team player, and
  • Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, and community partners, and
  • Willingness to learn new skills and activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with Wellness programming.
  • Previous experience with social media

STUDENT SKILL DEVELOPMENT:

Communication, critical and reflective thinking, leadership, marketing, professionalism, network building, risk management, teamwork

PREDICTED OUTCOME:

Practical competence, marketing, presentation and training skills, critical thinking, collaboration, communicating effectively, and teamwork

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
  • Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during semester.
  • Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
  • Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule, effective communication/interpersonal skills, and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
