Job summary

Kishwaukee College is seeking a part-time Student Transition and Alumni Assistant to mentor graduating TRIO Upward Bound students as they plan for college, careers, and further training. Qualifications

  • Be at least a college sophomore with a 3.0 GPA in the targeted subject matter.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of an I-9, background check and fingerprinting will be required.
  • Tutors must verify by transcript that they are qualified to tutor a course.
  • Maintain confidentiality per FERPA and institutional policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for graduating seniors as they transition beyond high school.
  • Connect students with campus departments, Career Services, workforce agencies, apprenticeship programs, employers, colleges, universities, military resources, and community organizations.
  • Assist students with navigating admissions, registration, financial aid, orientation, placement testing, and other postsecondary resources.
  • Conduct basic career interest assessments and support career exploration activities.
  • Assist with resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and career readiness activities.
  • Share scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, employment opportunities, transfer resources, and workforce information.
  • Collect, verify, and maintain updated contact information for graduating seniors and alumni.
  • Maintain communication with alumni by sharing program updates, educational opportunities, employment resources, and community referrals.
  • Assist with tracking alumni educational and career outcomes to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Support transition workshops, career events, alumni activities, and other program initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties assigned by the Director and TRIO Upward Bound Staff.

Job description

The Student Transition and Alumni Assistant supports graduating TRIO Upward Bound students as they prepare for life after high school by serving as a mentor, connector, and resource guide. This position helps students navigate the transition to college, career training, military service, employment, or other postsecondary pathways by connecting them with educational, career, workforce, and community resources. The position also strengthens alumni engagement by maintaining communication with program graduates and promoting continued access to opportunities and support.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 25 pounds with proper equipment; reasonable accommodations available.
  • Light physical activity required; must be able to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in various formats.
  • Primarily daytime hours with some evening and weekends to support College events and initiatives.
