Job summary

MSU Infrastructure Planning & Facilities (IPF) is seeking a student employee to assist in the Central Control operations. You will interact with customers by phone, radio, and email while supporting daily campus facility systems.

The role involves monitoring Siemens and Delta Building Automation Systems (BAS), responding to alarms, scheduling HVAC and lighting, analyzing trends, and assisting with maintenance checks. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Freshman to Junior standing; maintain student status for at least two years.
  • Available to work minimum 12 hours/week during school year and 40 hours/week during breaks and summer.
  • Able to use e-mail and basic PC terminology.
  • Adapt to changing customer needs and master computer applications including Building Automation software.
  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn procedures and services.
  • Work well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Central Control duties: monitor Siemens and Delta BAS, respond to alarms, schedule HVAC and lighting, set up trends and run reports.
  • Perform system preventative maintenance checks and modify programs as needed.
  • Build and modify graphics and provide support to trades technicians, commissioning agents and outside contractors.

Represent the department through personalized customer interactions via phone, radio and email. Perform duties associated with the daily operations of Central Control which include but are not limited to; Siemens and Delta Building Automation Systems (BAS), monitoring and responding to alarms, scheduling Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) systems and lighting equipment, setting up trends, running and analyzing reports, system preventative maintenance checks, modifying programs, building and modifying graphics and providing support to skilled trades technicians, commissioning agents and outside contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • The preferred individual will be at a Freshman, Sophomore or Junior Class standing who intends to maintain student status for at least two years and will be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during breaks and summer.
  • Possess knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail.
  • Able to adapt to changing customer needs, computer technology and master computer applications including Building Automation software.
  • Analyze and solve problems while paying close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service orientation, communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal, as well as possess the desire to help others.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while remaining composed in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to learn and implement detailed procedures and services.
  • Work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate desire for continual improvement and growth.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate student studying Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Interest in Electrical and/or Mechanical control systems.
  • Familiarity with Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) as well as Building Automation Systems (BAS).
