Job summary

The Learning Lamp seeks caring aides to support students with daily living activities and mobility in a school setting. You will follow individualized care plans in collaboration with teachers and nurses, provide emotional support, and help students participate in classroom activities while promoting independence.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and a willingness to complete required clearances and training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is the minimum education requirement.
  • Willingness to go through and pass required clearances and training to ensure safety of our children (mandated reporter training, physical, TB test).
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time.
  • Previous experience with individuals with special needs preferred.
  • Patience, empathy, and genuine interest in supporting students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Students with Activities of Daily Living: help with hygiene, grooming, dressing, mobility, and transfers.
  • Provide Physical and Emotional Support: assist with moving, comfort, and encouragement.
  • Implement Individualized Care Plans: follow plans developed with teachers and nurses.
  • Support in the Classroom: collaborate with staff and assist with instructional materials and adaptive equipment.
  • Maintain communication with teachers, parents, and staff about student progress and concerns.
  • Promote Independence: encourage students to develop daily living independence.

What are the duties and responsibilities?
Assist Students with Activities of Daily Living:
  • Help students with personal hygiene tasks, including toileting, grooming, and dressing.
  • Support students in mobility and transferring as needed.
Provide Physical and Emotional Support:
  • Assist students with physical disabilities in moving around the school, classrooms, and other facilities.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement to students facing challenges.
Implement Individualized Care Plans:
  • Follow individual care plans developed in collaboration with teachers, school nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure that the unique needs of each student are met.
Support in the Classroom:
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to facilitate students' participation in classroom activities.
  • Assist with instructional materials and adaptive equipment as required.
Communication:
  • Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and school staff regarding students' progress and any concerns.
  • Attend meetings with the educational team to discuss and update care plans.
Promote Independence:
  • Encourage and empower students to develop and maintain independence in daily activities whenever possible.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
What are the required qualifications?
  • High school diploma is the minimum education requirement.
  • Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: mandated reporter training, a physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time, as these happen throughout the eight-hour day.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs or disabilities is preferred.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively with a team, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements related to student information.
