The job of the Title One Family Support Specialist is to support families of students who are economically disadvantaged and/or academically at risk. The Family Support Specialist will assist families in identifying resources and services that may help their children succeed academically and socially, while building relationships with families to help them become more involved in their child's education. The specialist will collaborate with principals of Title 1 Schools to support their family involvement programs.
The Family Support Specialist will work in a school setting and will primarily interact with families during regular school hours. However, some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate families' schedules. The position may involve occasional travel to attend meetings or training sessions.
SKILLS: operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; classifying data and/or information; customer service; planning and managing projects; promoting activities and/or events; optimal communication skills; screening telephone calls; analyzing data; collecting money; conducting meetings; and implementing effective spoken and written communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE: basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; reading a variety of manuals; writing documents following prescribed formats; presenting information; solving practical problems; office application software and machines; vocational standards; district attendance; bookkeeping practices; business telephone etiquette; grammar, spelling and punctuation; office equipment and technology; recordkeeping and retention practices.

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions. There is continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 25% sitting, 37% walking, and 38% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Job related experience is required.
