Qualifications

  • Experience with at-risk students.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies.
  • Ability to apply progressive verbal/non-verbal strategies to de-escalate situations.
  • Enthusiasm for working with high school students.
  • Professional and personal qualities to work with students, staff, parents, and community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group guidance on graduation and planning.
  • Develop and track graduation plans; remove barriers to graduation.
  • Partner with community organizations to support graduation goals.
  • Counsel students on academics, careers, and life choices.
  • Establish rapport and promote pro-social skills.
  • Maintain parental communication and proactive partnerships.
  • Monitor student behaviors and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Manage challenging student Behaviors and mentor at-risk students.
  • Guide students to develop knowledge and attitudes for success in school.
  • Provide occupational information programs on the world of work.
  • Be a positive role model and maintain confidentiality.
  • Keep current information on community services for referrals.
  • Adhere to confidentiality laws.
  • Analyze data for students and subgroups (tests, records).
  • Interpret data to teachers, parents, and students.
  • Collaborate with teachers on group guidance sessions.
  • Support school teams.
  • Identify interventions for at-risk students.
  • Link area social agencies with at-risk students/parents; train parents and teachers.
  • Work with peers to support school mission.
  • Liaise between school and community agencies on student problems.
  • Provide crisis interventions and coordinate resources.
  • Offer workshops to parents about crisis and graduation.
  • Manage and oversee 504 plans.
  • Attend professional development.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
