Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing daily activities to support the program and supervise children for a safe, positive learning environment
  • Provide basic care needs (toileting, diapering, changing clothes, feeding)
  • Deliver age-appropriate program activities (reading, art, songs, games, playground)
  • Promote good hygiene, communication, and developmental progress
  • Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds regularly as needed
  • Maintain a well-managed classroom with setup, cleanup, and routine tasks
  • Assist with food/snack preparation if certified
  • Administer first aid/medication if certified
  • Perform attendance and records management
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals while maintaining confidentiality
  • Participate in meetings and training as required
  • Work under limited supervision with time-management and prioritization
  • Collaborate with team to ensure safety and learning
  • Adapt to interruptions and changing priorities
  • Maintain regular attendance

JOB SUMMARY

Daycare Assistant assists in planning, organizing, and delivering a program of daily activities for children aged 0-6 years; assists in supervising and monitoring the children; conveys and receives information; maintains a clean and safe classroom environment for the children; and ensures compliance with established regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience working with children under 6 years of age
  • Knowledge of stages of child development and correlating age-appropriate activities
  • Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within two months of hire
  • Hold or obtain a Food Handler permit within two months of hire
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in developing and implementing daily activities to support the program in meeting the needs of the children. Assist in supervising children to provide a safe and positive learning environment
  • Provide basic care needs (e.g., toileting, diapering, changing clothes, bottle feeding, etc.)
  • Assist in delivering assigned age-appropriate program activities and positive reinforcement (e.g., daily activities, reading stories, art, painting, singing, games, painting, playground activities, etc.) to encourage the developmental growth of the students
  • Promote good habits to improve the quality of children's outcomes and encourage children's development (e.g., demonstrating good hygiene techniques, communication, etc.)
  • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds regularly
  • Assist in maintaining a well-managed classroom with minimal supervision (e.g., set-up, cleanup, washing clothes, equipment, mopping, wiping down counters, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  • Assist with food and snack preparation, if certified, to meet the needs of the children
  • Assist in administering first aid and medication if certified, as assigned (e.g., scrapes, bruises, etc.) to meet their immediate health care needs
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g., attendance, food service records, anecdotal records, accident reports, etc.). Report observations and incidents appropriate instructional and administrative personnel
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars, as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
  • Work as part of a team in a collaborative environment, fostering positive working relationships and a safe and positive learning environment. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
