Job summary

Bryant & Stratton College is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor in the Hampton Roads area. The advisor will support student success by advocating, coaching and connecting students with campus resources and community referrals.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to ask open-ended questions, read non-verbal cues and listen actively.
  • Clear presentation and public speaking capabilities.
  • Solid computer literacy and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proactive contact with student advisees through meetings and group sessions.
  • Explain curriculum, course sequencing, academic status and financial responsibilities to students.
  • Monitor program outcomes to ensure catalog compliance and current offerings.
  • Teach students decision-making and self-advocacy for academic and career planning.
  • Schedule campus visits to engage with students and address concerns.
  • Apply advisement theories to strengthen academic and career readiness.
  • Maintain professional relationships with admissions, financial aid and faculty.
  • Support cohorts such as new students, returning students, at-risk or transfer students.
  • Promote curricular and co-curricular opportunities through referrals and communications.
  • Participate in new student orientation and other campus activities as assigned by the Dean.
  • Stay current with advisement practices through professional associations and scholarly reading.
  • Maintain an active electronic advisement portfolio.
