Job summary

West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley seeks a Student Success Center Advisor to guide first-year and transfer students in choosing programs of study and assist undeclared students in identifying a degree path.

You will advise students for their first three semesters, interpret catalog policies, evaluate transfer credits, monitor progress with early alerts and collaborate with Registrar, Admissions and departments to promote student success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of advising or counseling experience.
• Experience in student support services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise continuing students for the first three semesters of coursework.
• Interpret the WVU Tech Catalog policies for students matriculating to degree programs.
• Assist students with transfer/transient credits and evaluate transfer credits.
• Understand placement scores for proper registration in math and English courses.
• Suggest courses based on financial aid requirements and build schedules.
• Monitor students' progress using early alert and mid-semester grade reports.
• Identify at‑risk students and provide outreach for retention initiatives.
• Provide advising to students on probation or reinstatement after suspension.
• Respond to student inquiries and communications.
• Assist students in analyzing and resolving academic problems and refer to campus resources.
• Follow SSC policies on file review, confidentiality, and data management.
• Use Banner, DegreeWorks, Navigate to track academic history.
