Job summary

AMDA College of the Performing Arts in New York City seeks a Student Success Advisor to support student engagement, retention, and academic progress. This in-person role serves as first contact for student concerns and collaborates with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Counseling Services, and faculty.

Responsibilities include advising, outreach, documentation of meetings, training peer mentors, and assisting with workshops and orientation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of related professional experience required; experience in student affairs, student success, academic advising, higher education, or a related area preferred.
  • Experience working with college students or facilitating student programming preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build supportive and professional relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized advising and coaching to support students’ academic progress, engagement, and overall success.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for student concerns and connect students with campus resources.
  • Conduct regular outreach and check-ins with assigned students to monitor academic progress, attendance, engagement, and wellbeing.
  • Assist students in navigating policies, procedures, expectations, and academic-related concerns.
  • Support students in their transition to higher education and integration into AMDA’s academic, artistic, and creative community.
  • Identify students who may benefit from additional support and initiate timely outreach and referrals.
  • Respond to student-concern reports and assist with follow-up and early-intervention efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to support student needs.
  • Provide baseline academic guidance and help students develop strategies related to time management, organization, communication, self-advocacy, and academic success.
  • Support institutional efforts to improve student persistence, retention, and graduation.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and provide ongoing support to Student Success Peer Mentors.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of workshops and programs focused on student development, life skills, wellbeing, and campus engagement.
  • Support orientation, welcome activities, and other campus-wide student programs and events.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of student meetings, outreach, referrals, and follow-up activities.
  • Recognize concerns requiring escalation and promptly refer complex, sensitive, or urgent matters to the Assistant Director or other appropriate campus personnel.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
