Job summary

College of Charleston is seeking three Academic Advisors to support undergraduate students with personalized academic planning, majors exploration, and goal setting in a one-on-one or group format.

In this in-person role, advisors will utilize technology tools and campus resources to promote self-authorship, success strategies, and timely degree completion for a diverse student population.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of student development at a liberal arts & sciences college
• Well versed in advising theories and CAS/NACADA standards
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with students, staff and parents
• Commitment to serving a diverse student population and inclusivity
• Awareness of FERPA regulations and responsible information handling
• Ability to work both independently and in teams with flexibility

Responsibilities

• Provide effective one-on-one and group academic advising for first‑year, transfer, and undecided students
• Use technology-enhanced tools to help students plan majors and courses
• Collaborate with campus partners and participate in departmental programming
• Engage in ongoing professional development and advising assessment initiatives
• Maintain accurate advising records and ensure FERPA compliance
