Lamar University’s Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC) seeks an entry‑level Academic Advisor to support freshman and sophomore students, focusing on enrollment, course planning, and degree requirements within a Meta Major framework. The Advisor works under mentorship to develop advising strategies and track student progress.

This role involves advising on course selection, maintaining records in advising systems, contributing to departmental assessment, and participating in university events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 1 year advising or related experience preferred.
• Experience in student success support and enrollment advising is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist students throughout their Lamar University journey, including enrollment, referrals, and skill-building for success.
• Provide personalized academic advising and support, helping with decision‑making, goal setting, and academic planning.
• Advise on course selection, educational opportunities, academic requirements, and university policies.
• Participate in committees, special projects, and university events to support advising outreach and assessment.
• Track and record student interactions, monitor progress and report data to supervisors using advising systems.
