Job summary

Savannah College of Art and Design seeks a dedicated Student Success Adviser to be the primary contact for undergraduate students. You will help students assess interests and map them to SCAD programs, while coordinating with many offices to promote retention and a smooth enrollment process.

You will manage a 400–500 student caseload, guide major/minor choices, and develop training for degree audit software MySCAD and registration navigation. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong communication, organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in advising, financial aid, or counseling in higher education preferred.
  • Familiarity with university policies and degree programs is a plus.

Job description

As a member of the student success and advising team, you’ll be the primary contact for students who are in the process of completing their undergraduate degree at SCAD. Ultimately, your goal is to help students assess and match their interests, skills, and abilities to a program or programs.

To support the university’s mission of preparing talented students for creative professions through engaged teaching and learning in a positively oriented university environment, you’ll:

  • Follow a regular communication plan, including proactive outreach for a caseload of 400 to 500 students
  • Monitor student enrollment and coursework progress
  • Provide counsel on financial aid and answer questions about student accounts
  • Offer early and continuous outreach to students identified through early alert programs
  • Coordinate services with various internal offices to develop communication and programs that promote student retention

As a success adviser, you’ll:

  • Assist with major and minor selections
  • Develop programs and training for students to learn the degree audit software, MySCAD, and web registration navigation
  • Articulate academic and university policies to students to complete transactions
  • Lead first year experience courses
  • Participate in SCADbound to meet with new students and parents prior to enrollment

Additionally, you’ll:

  • Assist students with registration functions (i.e., web registration, course selection reviews, and form and web requests for registration overrides and curriculum variances)
  • Provide regular communication with department chairs and faculty about curriculum, course needs, academic policies, and academic advising procedures
  • Participate in the curriculum review and catalog proofing process
  • Document student contacts in Salesforce
  • Coordinate with and provide support to other student success offices

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • In-depth understanding of certain academic programs and a working knowledge of all SCAD undergraduate programs
  • An ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in advising, financial aid, or counseling in higher education
  • Proficient in Microsoft software and Banner
Travel required:
  • Less than 10%
Work hours:

The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
