Job summary

MSU - Michigan State University seeks a Director for the Student Parents and Caregivers Resource Center (SPCRC) to provide strategic leadership and oversee services supporting student parents and caregivers across all campuses.

The role partners with Financial Aid, The Graduate School, and academic colleges to advance academic success, retention, well-being, and belonging, while supervising staff and managing the SOS Emergency Fund.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Public Administration, Counseling, Education, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, student affairs, student support services, basic needs initiatives, family support programs, case management, or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience developing and managing programs that support student success and retention.
• Experience supervising professional staff and/or student employees.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups.

Position Summary

The Director of the Student Parents and Caregivers Resource Center (SPCRC) provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for Michigan State University's comprehensive support services, resources, and initiatives designed to advance the success of student parents and caregivers. Serving as the university's lead advocate and subject matter expert on the experiences and needs of parenting and caregiving students, the Director develops and implements programs, services, and partnerships that promote academic success, retention, well-being, and belonging across undergraduate, graduate, and professional student populations.

The Director leads campus-wide efforts to reduce barriers and improve outcomes for student parents and caregivers through collaboration with academic and administrative partners, including Financial Aid, Undergraduate Education, The Graduate School, and academic colleges. The position oversees the Support Our Spartans (SOS) Emergency Fund and related support programs, providing strategic stewardship, policy oversight, assessment, and resource coordination to ensure students have access to the financial assistance, services, and support needed to persist and thrive. The Director supervises professional staff, student employees, and interns, manages departmental operations and resources, and serves as a key institutional leader advancing Michigan State University's commitment to student success and inclusive excellence.

Minimum Requirements

• Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Public Administration, Counseling, Education, or related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, student affairs, student support services, basic needs initiatives, family support programs, case management, or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience developing and managing programs that support student success and retention.
• Experience supervising professional staff and/or student employees.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Experience managing budgets, funds, grants, or financial assistance programs.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting student parents, caregivers, nontraditional students, or other student populations with complex support needs.
• Knowledge of student success, retention, basic needs, and financial wellness initiatives in higher education.
• Experience administering emergency financial assistance or grant-funded programs.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, equity-minded, and student-centered practices.
• Experience with assessment, strategic planning, and data-informed decision making.
• Experience working within a large, complex university environment.
