Poway Unified School District is seeking part-time Student Services Assistant to support elementary students with behavioral and social skills. Under supervision, you will report sensitive issues and assist students with refusal skills related to substances, bullying, self-esteem, anger management, and decision making.
The role includes clerical tasks and collaborative support for staff and students, requiring one year of relevant experience and appropriate credentials.
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or counselor, perform student support activities to enhance and reinforce behavioral and social skills to students; report sensitive issues; assist students with refusal skills related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs ; assist students with issues related to bullying, low self-esteem, anger management, decision making, and other matters which prevent full educational potential; provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for staff and students.

The current openings are for 3 hours per day/15 hours per week, 9.5 months worked.
These positions provide support at elementary schools.
This is not a benefited position.
PLEASE NOTE: This recruitment will supplement the existing Student Services Assistant eligibility list. Successful candidates will be added to the current eligibility list and ranked according to their final examination scores.
Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential, OR who possess a Bachelor's Degree AND have passed the CBEST
will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.
Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission.
Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).

One year of experience working with children in an organized setting.
Child development principles and practices.
Basic methods used in motivating, assisting and building resilience in students.
Student behavior and characteristics.
Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
Oral and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Research-based class lessons.

Basic computer skills.
