Job summary

LTHS District 204 is seeking a Student Assistant to help supervise students and visitors, staff the welcome desk, and escort students to offices and classrooms. The role includes duties at athletic events, dances, and other activities, with occasional hours outside the regular day.

The ideal candidate will be a high school graduate with strong security awareness and the ability to interact well with young adults. This on-site position requires reliability and a calm, helpful demeanor.

Qualifications

• Language Skill – ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Maintains order and protects students in all areas, in and around the school campus.
• Staffs the welcome desk at front entrance, identifies building visitors, and assists/directs them to the proper offices.
• Assists students with problems and refers them to appropriate school personnel.
• Delivers slips/passes and escorts students to Assistant Principals’ Office.
• Assists students with locker problems.
• Chaperone/supervise participants and visitors of athletic events, dances, plays, concerts, Saturday detention, and other co-curricular activities.
• Works cooperatively with the Nurse’s Office and AP’s Office staff.
• Monitors school property to protect against vandalism, theft, and unsafe conditions.
• Be visible and moving especially during passing periods when not assigned to a specific location.
• Monitors student truancy and tardiness by checking each student found in the hallway during class time for a pass.
• Checks washrooms on a regular basis for smoking, graffiti, damage, etc.
• Removes unauthorized and outdated posters.
• Encourages students to arrive to class on time.
• Assists students with disabilities as directed.
• Monitors student dress to ensure it conforms to the dress code written in the student handbook.
• Escorts violators to the Assistant Principals’ Office.
• Signs in and out daily, checks binder for information about day’s activities.
• Classrooms without teachers are to be reported to the Main Office; supervise until a teacher or substitute is located.
• Student Assistants are to stay at assigned stations until relieved.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Lead Student Assistant Coordinator and/or Assistant Principals’ Office.
