Job summary

Poudre School District is seeking a Safety Support Specialist to assist educators and site-based safety teams with implementing safety and behavior plans. You will help de-escalate student concerns, monitor students across campus, and support Campus Security Officers as needed.

Responsibilities include data collection, incident reporting, collaboration with staff and families, and active participation in drills and professional development. 8-hour days, 185 workdays, ongoing position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire; CPR and CPI certification; Valid U.S. Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students across campus including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, restrooms, bus areas, and school-sponsored activities and events.
  • Provide site-based safety teams with implementation and support of safety and/or behavior plans to support students with 1:1 intervention.
  • Assist safety teams with developing and reviewing student safety and/or behavior plans by collecting, recording, and summarizing data on observable student behavior; maintain incident reports.
  • Identify and respond to safety concerns and collaborate with administration and responding staff; support emergency procedures and drills.
  • Mentor students and reinforce prosocial skills to support compliance with plans and Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff, families, and safety teams following protocols.
  • Assist safety teams during searches of personal belongings and monitor writings, drawings, devices during daily check-ins/outs.
  • Participate in professional development, building meetings, and student meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field
Criminal background check required for hire; CPR and CPI certification; Valid U.S. Driver's License

Pay
  • Pay Range: $21.41–$23.98/hour (minimum plus 12% above minimum), based on qualifications and experience.

Summary

Responsible for providing support and assistance to educators and site-based student safety teams with implementing safety and/or behavior plans to support individual student needs so that they may fully participate in class and school activities. De‑escalate and manage students with threatening behavior and assist students with pro‑social, personal care, and self‑awareness skills. Monitor students at school including at bus stops, hallways, restrooms, lunchrooms, and extracurricular activities. Support Campus Security Officers as needed.

Job Tasks
  • Supervise students across campus including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, restrooms, bus areas, and school-sponsored activities and events. Provide site-based safety teams with implementation and support of safety and/or behavior plans to support students with 1:1 intervention. Support Campus Security Officers (CSO) at school sites when additional support is needed or when they are scheduled to be off.
  • Assist site-based safety team with developing and reviewing student's safety and/or behavior plans by collecting, recording, and summarizing data on observable student behavior. Maintain accurate incident reports and documentation.
  • Identify and respond to safety concerns and collaborate with administration and responding staff. Support emergency procedures and drills.
  • Mentor students and support and reinforce prosocial skills to support student compliance with assigned plans and Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff, families, and safety teams following team and department protocols.
  • Be present when administrators conduct searches of personal belongings. Assist safety teams with monitoring writings, drawings, electronic devices, and during daily check ins/outs.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development, building meetings, and student meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a school or security setting.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • CPR and CPI certification.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must meet District driver insurability requirements.
