Job summary

Alabaster City Schools seeks a Bus Aide to support safe student transport. You will assist the bus driver, help students board and exit, and ensure seating and behavior are appropriate during routes.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Alabama driver’s license, good health, and completion of pre-service and in-service training. You may perform related transportation duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Academic competency in basic skills.
• Valid Alabama driver’s license.
• Good physical and emotional health to assist students.
• Participation in pre-service and in-service bus driver training.
• Alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of students by buckling in seats and securing wheelchairs before bus starts.
• Keep students seated and under control during transportation.
• Assist students with crossing the street.
• Assist with loading and unloading at home and at school.
• Escort students to the responsible adult at school.
• Account for students' personal belongings and messages.
• Familiarize self with safety equipment, emergency procedures, and bus routes.
