Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital - Columbus - Victorian Village is seeking a Student Respiratory Therapy Tech. Under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist, you will perform routine respiratory procedures, collect patient data, and document demographics.

You will use various respiratory devices to administer medications and support respiration. The position requires current enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program, completion of the first year, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in accredited respiratory therapy program; completion of the first year/fundamentals of respiratory therapy, or equivalent, is required.
• Knowledge of basic respiratory techniques and procedures and aseptic practices is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts physician prescribed treatments of a routine nature operating various respiratory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification and oxygenation.
• Performs chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Performs suctioning of the patient by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal and tracheal).
• Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring.
• Performs 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Assists with procedures related to respiratory care (e.g., Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, Chest Tube placement).
• Performs tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Performs arterial puncture and monitors ventilation efficiency; records test results.
• Performs CPR according to BLS guidelines.
• Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
