Job summary

Sam Houston State University is seeking Student Employee-Research Assistants for Dr. Giuseppe Martone in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The positions support a grant-funded 15-week project in Geometry and Topology, focusing on numerical approximations of the asymmetric Thurston metric on convex structures.

Three positions are available. Work is 12 hours per week at $15.00 per hour; review of candidates starts immediately with Zoom interviews beginning November 20.

Qualifications

• Strong interest in Mathematics.
• Familiarity with Linear Algebra (e.g. matrix multiplication, eigenvalues).
• Familiarity with computational software (Mathematica, Python).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Research: Conduct research on convex real projective geometric structures on surfaces.
• Team meetings: Actively participate in in-person weekly team meetings. Meetings will be scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to ensure the project’s success.
• Project Management: Maintain organized records of research and data. Meet project deadlines and milestones as outlined by the project team.
• Final report: Significantly and extensively contribute to the writing of the final project report.
