THOM Thomas Hospitals in Charleston, WV seeks a Radiology Support Assistant to assist Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by performing imaging and patient care duties in support of the Radiology Department mission.

Responsibilities include rotating across diagnostic areas, preparing contrast agents, coordinating transports, educating patients, and promoting teamwork. The role is non-exempt with a 4-hour minimum weekly schedule, and requires enrollment in an accredited radiography program.

  • Navigates transport details and patient transfers.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
  • Promotes team approach to Radiology services by interacting with staff.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately.
  • Participates in coordination of daily work flow.

Job description

Assists Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by performing imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care to support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  1. Enrolled in an Accredited Radiography School.

  1. Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills. (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  2. Assists Radiologic Technologists in preparing contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays; which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  3. Navigates transport details and patient transfers.
  4. Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  5. Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  6. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  7. Participates in coordination of daily work flow.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  3. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
  2. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  3. Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment.
  4. Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age, or ability.
