Qualifications

Overview

The Student Pharmacist assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to all patients of Carle Foundation Hospital. Performs technical tasks such as filing, compounding, reconstitution, labeling, and delivery.

Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (PTCB) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (NHA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

Education: High school diploma/GED, Must be enrolled in Pharmacy School.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by the Director that do not require clinical decision-making.
  • Enter and process new prescriptions and refills.
  • Fill medication orders accurately and timely, including doses, floor stock, unit dose cart, outpatient, and take-home prescriptions.
  • Perform billing functions, including patient charging, nursing charges, and controlled substance charges via manual entry or barcode reader.
  • Perform miscellaneous non-sterile compounding.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of nursing units and pharmacy for expired or unusable drugs, ensuring proper storage and inventory.
  • Prepare and deliver enteral nutritional supplements; maintain related records and billing.
  • Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room.
  • Refer customers and calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Restock and replace trays and kits used throughout the facility.
  • Prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task).
  • Prepare IV products using aseptic technique with proper labeling (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task).
  • Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and provide laboratory information to the pharmacist (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task).
  • Prepare batch IV products to support patient care (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task).

Compensation and Benefits
