Qualifications

• Must have earned a minimum grade of an A- in the Core, Writing, or English course you wish to tutor.
• Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.4.

• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for Core, Writing, and English courses.
• Assist students with developing writing skills, understanding reading assignments, and mastering course content.
• Help students improve study habits, note-taking strategies, and exam preparation techniques.
• Coordinate and facilitate at least one Scholarly Development workshop and one Financial Literacy event per semester.
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, attendance, and student progress.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by the program coordinator.

JOB SUMMARY

The RISE TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is seeking motivated and qualified Student Peer Tutors to provide academic support for undergraduate students. Tutors will offer targeted assistance in Core curriculum courses, Writing, and English, helping peers build essential academic skills, improve their course comprehension, and navigate their educational journey successfully.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Core, Writing, and English courses.
• Assist students with developing writing skills, understanding complex reading assignments, and mastering course content.
• Help students improve study habits, note-taking strategies, and exam preparation techniques.
• Coordinate and facilitate at least one (1) Scholarly Development workshop and one (1) Financial Literacy event for RISE students per semester.
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, event attendance, and student progress.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by the program coordinator.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Work-Study Eligibility: Must have a valid Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the current academic year. (Applications without FWS eligibility cannot be considered).
• Academic Performance: Must have earned a minimum grade of an A- in the specific Core, Writing, or English course(s) you wish to tutor.
• GPA Requirement: Must maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.4.
• Strong public speaking or presentation skills to confidently facilitate program events.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience planning, organizing, or presenting academic or financial wellness workshops.
• Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or academic coaching.
• High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
• Strong organizational skills and a passion for helping peers succeed.
