Job summary

Church Profile

Gateway Baptist Church is a well-established, multigenerational southern Baptist church located in rural southwest Virginia with two campuses in Weber City and Gate City Virginia. Gateway offers two services on Sunday mornings at 9:30am at our Weber City Campus and at 11:00am at our Gate City Campus with an average weekly attendance around 375.

Our student ministry is established and active, with approximately 40 students gathering weekly, supported by a committed team of faithful volunteers and parents. The ministry enjoys regular retreats, summer camp, and year-round discipleship opportunities that are well supported by the church. This is a compelling opportunity for the right leader to step in and continue to build something meaningful and take this student ministry to new heights with a potential to reach 900 students from our local middle and high schools.

The church is seeking the right candidate to join us as the Student Pastor to lead and grow the student ministry serving 7th-12th grades. The right candidate will have a deep personal life in Christ, loves God’s Word, has a heart for students and families, is passionate about making disciples and aligns with the church’s overall mission and discipleship process.

Expectations of the Student Pastor

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants should:
  • Meet the biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
  • Affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Demonstrate a growing walk with Christ and a heart for the local church.
  • Have a strong biblical teaching ability.
  • Be a humble, servant-minded leader who works well with a team.
  • Have a passion for discipling students and equipping families.
Education
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, though not required.
  • Theological training is preferred or willing to pursue training.
Experience
  • Student ministry experience is strongly preferred, with evidence of tangible growth in both student numbers and volunteer development.
