The SBC Executive Committee is seeking a full-time Student Pastor for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Student Pastor will lead the student and young adult ministry, providing discipleship to youth from grade six to early adulthood.

This role involves teaching, event coordination, and collaboration with church staff to develop ministry strategies. A bachelor’s degree in Theology or related field is preferred, along with prior student ministry experience. Excellent communication skills and biblical character are essential.

Job description

Overview

The Student Pastor will lead the student and young adult ministry of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church so that families are transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and our emerging generations are prepared to faithfully follow Jesus throughout their lives by providing a comprehensive ministry of discipleship to young people, beginning with grade six and extending into early adulthood.

The Student Pastor shall give leadership and guidance to all programs that involve students at PGBC, either by direct involvement or by support and direction of volunteer leaders at the church. The Student Pastor will work alongside the Senior Pastor and other ministry staff to develop and grow our impact in the local community through outreach and communication.

The Student Pastor is expected to be an active member of PGBC and adhere to and be led by the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 of the SBC and the mission and values of PGBC.

This full-time position is based on-campus at PGBC in Owensboro, Kentucky and preferred candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Theology, Bible Studies or Student Ministry. However, the candidate will be considered based on overall qualifications.

• Meets and exceeds the qualifications for pastors and deacons laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9
• Effectively teach and communicate the Bible with students on a level that they understand
• Physically able to engage in activities with students
• Previous student ministry experience

Essential Duties

• Teaching and shepherding
• Be the primary Bible teacher for our weekly combined Jr. High/HS youth groups
• Coordinate and/or teach the young adult groups
• Examine and establish curriculum for these groups in coordination with other ministry staff
• Event/programming coordination, executing logistics/reports, administrative responsibilities, and strategic leadership of all student events (planning, equipping others, etc.)
• Strategic planning in coordination with other ministry staff and church leaders
• Establish yearly goals and calendar for student ministry
• Utilize and chair the Youth Advisory Council
• Communicate vision, goals, and student ministry procedures to church body
• Prepare and oversee student ministry budget
• Excellent computer skills and maintaining student ministry reporting

PGBC Ministry Staff Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in regular staff meetings
• Keep the Senior Pastor and other ministry staff appraised of life in student ministry
• Work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor to adjust policy and strategy as needed for student ministry
• Be present and involved on Sunday mornings (Worship services and Sunday School)
• Available and motivated to work extended hours, evenings, over weekends and public holidays when necessary and even occasionally with short notice
• All other duties as assigned
