Job summary

Ohio State University offers a Student Nurse Externship for eight weeks during the summer for rising senior BSN students. Externs work with nurse preceptors on multidisciplinary teams at University Hospital, gaining hands-on care experience in diverse specialty areas and a learning-supportive environment.

• Represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values.

Additional Information

The Student Nurse Externship is a continuous eight-week summer program in which rising senior nursing students in a BSN program work with highly skilled nurse preceptors gaining experience with multidisciplinary teams, in diverse specialty care areas in an atmosphere of learning and support.

Program dates - May 24th - July 17th, 2027.

Requirements for the Student Nurse Externship

• Be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate nursing program at a university or college and have completed your junior year.
• Maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
• Write a 250-word essay describing how the externship could influence the transition from student nurse to professional nurse.
• Provide school transcripts or advising report.

Externs are expected to work 32-36 hours each week throughout the eight-week program.

Candidates will be reviewed and offered a unit of placement on a first-come, first-served basis.

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
