Job summary

Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton is seeking a Student Nurse Assistant (SNA) to join the Float Pool. This advanced-level role lets nursing students gain hands-on patient care across the hospital under licensed staff supervision.

You will participate in orientation, competency development, and mentorship, build clinical confidence, and apply critical thinking in daily tasks while rotating through units.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled and remain enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Must successfully complete a 2-week orientation training in December

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities for daily living and non-invasive patient care tasks.
• Document care and observations in the electronic medical record.
• Promptly report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel.
• Collect and transport specimens per policy.
• Provide one-to-one patient safety observation as assigned.
• Assist with patient transfers and transport.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and ethical behavior in all interactions.
• Participate in orientation, training, and ongoing development sessions.
• Perform point-of-care testing and quality control procedures as trained.
• Transport non-controlled medications and blood products per policy.
• Assist with procedures under direct supervision.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to support individualized patient care plans.
• Apply clinical judgment in routine situations with guidance.
• Engage in unit-based learning activities and professional development seminars.
• Demonstrate increasing independence and initiative in clinical settings.
• Participate in clinical observations and evaluations to enhance assessment skills.
• Perform advanced patient care tasks under supervision
• Assist with preparation, storage, and delivery of breast milk and pediatric formulas.
• Apply critical thinking and clinical decision-making in complex care scenarios.
• Serve as a mentor and preceptor for new staff and students.
• Participate in regulatory readiness activities.
• Co‑lead patient care activities and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Attend advanced seminars focused on transition to practice, leadership, and evidence‑based care.
