Job description

DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, DMCUL includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and a full-service outreach infrastructure with patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system, and billing department. The service area covers Southeast Michigan, with a test menu of over 1,000 tests, including high-end specialty tests. Less than 1% of tests are sent to outside reference laboratories, and the lab provides reference services to other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and out-of-state facilities.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, performs routine clinical laboratory tests of a repetitive nature, typically limited to one laboratory section.

1. Performs routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests on patient specimens following established methodologies and policies.
2. Prepares and maintains accurate records of specimens received.
3. Prepares media, stains, reagents, and other solutions used in tests. Analyzes test results and relays findings to physicians and authorized personnel.
4. Records test results, reviews for accuracy, and ensures conformance to quality control parameters.
5. Utilizes, calibrates, and maintains laboratory equipment, performing quality control checks.
6. Obtains specimens from patients, such as blood, and transports them to the laboratory. Selects, uses, cleans, and maintains equipment, complying with administrative policies.
7. Maintains compliance with lab safety, OSHA accreditation, and regulatory standards.
8. Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating values aligned with DMC's commitment to community welfare, quality, respect, teamwork, communication, innovation, education, and resource efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
