Judson ISD Transportation is seeking a Student Management Specialist to provide training and supervision for bus drivers, teachers, and coaches. The role reports to the Transportation Supervisor and supports driver placement and program development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Possess Texas Class B CDL with P&S Endorsement.

• Current Texas School Bus Driver Certification, or enrolled in next available course.
• Fingerprint background check clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Bus Referral Program and liaise with drivers and school admins.
• Maintain Bus Referral Files for each school year.
• Assist drivers in communicating with parents and admins.
• Recommend Student Management Training for Drivers/Assistants as needed.
• Assist Trainers in all facets of training.
• Assist with Bus Video Reviews.
• Update training materials and conduct sessions on new equipment or rules.
• Retrain drivers as needed and ensure compliance.
• Prepare and present bus safety, discipline, and emergency procedures.
• Observe drivers and substitute on routes when required.
• Attend Texas A&M Training Sessions as needed.
• Operate a school bus with or without students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provides training and supervision to bus drivers, teachers, and coaches that will be employed by Judson ISD, assists the administration with certified bus drivers when needed and advises about placement of bus drivers

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Possess current Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B)
• Texas Class B License with P&S Endorsement. Clear driving record and criminal record as required by Texas Education Agency
• Current Texas School Bus Driver Certification, and or enrolled in next available course offered by Region 20 Service Center
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to operate bus as well as possess acceptable driving record
• Outstanding knowledge of all requirements needed to be a good bus driver
• Excellent knowledge of bus capabilities and routine maintenance procedures
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
• Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Knowledge of student discipline procedures and ability to manage student behavior

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a bus driver, preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Coordinate Bus Referral Program, acting as Department Liaison with drivers and School Administrators to ensure bus referrals are investigated and a response provided to the driver in a timely manner
• Organize and maintain Bus Referral Files for each school year
• Assist Drivers in communicating with parents and School Administrators as necessary
• When required and in conjunction with the Bus Referral Program, recommend Student Management Training for Drivers/Bus Assistants
• Assist other Trainers in all facets of training
• Assist with Bus Video Reviews
• Conducts training updates and instructions on new equipment, changes in rules and regulations, etc.
• Retrains existing drivers when needed
• Updates driver training material as needed
• Conducts bus safety, discipline, and emergency procedures at district campuses
• Observes drivers as needed
• Substitutes on routes when needed by the dispatcher
• Attends Texas A&M Training Sessions and follow-up sessions as needed
• Drive a school bus with or without students on board
• Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
• Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
• Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
• Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
• Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
• Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
• Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
