Job summary

The Auburn University Regional Airport is seeking a Student Line Service Technician to support fueling operations for the School of Aviation. You will fuel aircraft, operate fuel trucks, and help manage Avgas inventory, while interacting with pilots and flight crew.

As a student employee, you will train on fueling procedures, safety practices, and routes of aircraft servicing, with shifts that accommodate class schedules and campus activities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Refuel aircraft with Avgas and Jet-A according to orders and schedules.
  • Assist in towing aircraft safely.

  • Measure fuel quantities and check fuel quality; assist in receiving fuel shipments.
  • Coordinate fuel orders with flight school dispatch and pilots.
  • Operate ground support equipment and follow detailed checklists.

Overview

The Auburn University Regional Airport is excited to begin the search for a Student Line Service Technician! The Student Airport Line Service Technician (flight school fueling crew) performs aircraft refueling, operation of fuel trucks, and management of fuel inventory and quality. Serves as part of the Flight School Fueling Crew, responsible for refueling Auburn University’s School of Aviation aircraft fleet and helping to manage the airport’s Avgas inventory.

Responsibilities
  • Fuels aircraft using both Aviation Gasoline and Jet‑A fuel. Responsible for ensuring aircraft are fueled according to specific orders and timetables.
  • Assists in towing aircraft as required, ensuring safe movement on the airport grounds.
  • Learns the trade of aircraft refueling, including how to operate fuel trucks and associated components, measure fuel quantities in storage, check fuel quality, assist in receiving fuel shipments, coordinate fuel orders with flight school dispatch, and interact with pilots and passengers.
  • Operates and becomes familiar with ground support equipment, such as the aircraft tug, ground power unit (GPU), lavatory service cart, de‑icing cart, forklift, golf cart, UTV, and airport shuttles.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are followed, utilizing detailed checklists to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors new hires.
  • Ensures safety standards, guidelines, and best practices set forth by the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), and Auburn University are followed to the highest levels.

Expectations
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and to work on select weekends, all football game Saturdays, select special events, and select after‑hours callouts.
  • Airport Line Service Technicians that serve on the Flight School Fueling Crew must be able to work 6.5‑hour shifts, three days a week (including Saturdays), as assigned.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, over a radio system, and in written correspondence.
  • Student workers would need to keep these shift requirements in mind when setting up class schedules.
