Job summary

The New York Public Library is seeking a Library Page at the Andrew Heiskell Library. This role is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited program and offers hands-on exposure to how a major library operates.

We are looking for reliable candidates with strong communication and a friendly demeanor. You will shelve materials, assist patrons with basic computer tasks, and contribute to a welcoming service environment.

Qualifications

• Page positions reserved for candidates currently enrolled in a degree program/accredited school
• Minor work certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
• Ability to sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instructions in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent customer service and ability to work with diverse patrons
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong problem-solving ability
• Demonstrated reliability and professionalism
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Applications

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive attitude toward the public
• Shelve and arrange books, CDs, DVDs and other materials alphabetically and numerically
• Assist patrons in locating materials and answer in-person inquiries
• Help patrons with basic computer, internet and AV equipment usage
• Locate and prepare materials requested by patrons
• Check materials for damage and assist with shelf maintenance
• Help set up public spaces for events and programs
• Perform other related tasks as needed
