JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

CSL Behring Fermentation Facility

Position Overview:

The responsibilities include involvement in bioprocessing activities such as fermentation, separation processes (cell lysis, centrifugation, filtration), purification of bio-based products, and performing analytical procedures.

Job Description and Requirements:

• Support day-to-day activities at the CSL Behring Fermentation Facility, including routine maintenance, equipment upkeep, preparing buffers, microbial nutrient media, and stock solutions, along with record keeping.
• Receive training on equipment, processes, techniques, and fundamental principles of microbial fermentation and bioprocessing.
• Work primarily under supervision and guidance from staff.
• Training will include the use of equipment related to fermentation, biomass processing, and separation techniques such as bioreactors, biomass processing equipment, tangential flow filtration, and chromatography systems.
• Complete Penn State Laboratory safety training via PSU-EHS if not previously completed.

Preferred Skills:

• Strong laboratory experience with microbial fermentation, media preparation, and aseptic techniques.
• Experience using biosafety cabinets for microbial culturing at various scales.
• Strong organizational and communication skills for presenting results and providing updates.
• Proficiency with basic computer software like Microsoft Office for data analysis.
• Ability to follow protocols and maintain organized laboratory notes and data.
• Availability to work 30-40 hours/week during summer months.
