Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Clinical Lab Associate 1 (Phlebotomist) in the Lab Service Center department. Here, you will perform phlebotomy tasks, provide order entry, central processing, EKGs, perform laboratory testing, and assist with DOTs and BATs as needed. When full competency at level 1 is achieved, the individual may be elevated to CLA level 2. This department is located in the Laboratory Service Center. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform assigned supportive work in patient care, including venipuncture, blood specimen collection, EKGs, and functional skills.
  • Interact with patients and staff to ensure excellent customer service; respond to inquiries, handle test results, and greet patients.
  • Process human specimens for testing in specific laboratory departments.
  • Perform technical procedures after training and demonstrated competency.
  • Use interactive processes to exceed patient, physician, and family expectations by providing high-quality, cost-effective care and treatments.
  • Provide patient care according to unit-specific competencies.
  • Adapt to daily unpredictability by adjusting work schedules and assignments as needed.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of HIS and LIS systems, progressing to hospital billing systems.
  • Learn to run lab testing procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed accredited phlebotomy course or program.
  • AHA CPR Certification.
Preferred Qualifications

Successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program or certification by:

  • ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, NPA, ASCLS, NCA, or NHA.
