Job summary

James Madison University’s Forbes Center for the Performing Arts is seeking two Student House Managers to provide front-of-house support for events with patrons in attendance. This part-time, institutional employment offers hourly pay of $12.77 and requires strong customer service, excellent organization, and the ability to guide audiences and staff in a busy venue on campus in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

As a front-of-house liaison, you will prepare venues, assist seating, coordinate with the Stage

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service, communications, sales training, and supervisory skills.
  • Must be extremely organized and be able to inspire and motivate others.
  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure, multi-task, and be responsible for the needs of the audience and other staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Work an average of 12 to 16 hours per week.
  • Act as the Center's front-of-house liaison with audiences for five performance venues.
  • Prepare public spaces for audience arrival.
  • Alert the housekeeping crew if there are cleaning issues.
  • Train ushers to greet patrons, distribute programs, scan tickets at the door, escort patrons to their reserved seating, and provide information about the facility.
  • Control unauthorized access to the venues, help facilitate latecomer seating, enforce theatre policies, and direct the safe and timely evacuation of the audience in case of emergency.
  • Coordinate with the Stage Manager and Box Office staff. Prepare house count and performance reports.

General Information:

James Madison University’s Forbes Center for the Performing Arts is seeking for two (2) new Student House Managers to provide front-of-house support for all events taking place in the Forbes Center that have patrons in attendance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work an average of 12 to 16 hours per week

Qualifications:

Conditions of Employment:

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
