Legal Aid Society is seeking a part-time Student Fellow to support expungement and consumer case work during the 2025-2026 school year. The position offers up to 20 hours per week, with a schedule set by LAS and the Fellow and potential renewal subject to funding.

The role focuses on administrative support for client representation in office and community settings. The Fellow reports to the Advocacy Director or a designated manager and will assist with petitions, pleadings, and correspondence

Qualifikationen

  • Must have demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; public service or law-related graduate students preferred.
  • Candidate should be proficient with office technologies including case management software.
  • Second language skills are highly valued.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

STUDENT FELLOW

Part-time hourly paid student research fellow to provide support in the areas of expungement and consumer cases. The position is temporary hourly paid student position for the current 2025-2026 school year. It may be eligible for renewal subject to funding and the agreement of LAS and the Fellow. The Fellow may work up to 20 hours per week. Specific hourly schedule to be determined based on need of LAS and student’s availability.

Purpose of the job: Assist Legal Aid Society in administrative support of expungement and consumer cases.

Work environment: Work is performed in the office setting and in the community.

Reports to Advocacy Director or other designated manager.

Essential job functions:

Assist with the preparation of petitions, pleadings, bankruptcy filings, and other legal documents

Prepare and send certified correspondence

Communicate with clients by phone

Relay attorney-approved legal information and advice

Coordinate and schedule client meetings

Maintain accurate files and data.

Other administrative and legal support necessary for client representation

Offer recommendations to improve tracking procedures for current and future cases.

Prepare reports and complete forms required by program policies.

Participate in program activities as applicable and upon request.

Perform other duties commensurate with duties outlined above at the discretion of his or her supervisor.

Qualifications

Must have demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree. Law school students, Justice Administration graduate students, or similar public service graduate students with an interest in public interest law are preferred.

Must have skills to use office technologies, including case management software.

Second language skills highly valued.

Physical requirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
