Job Summary

Under the supervision and direction of the College Corps Principal Investigator, the Student Experience and Leadership Programs Specialist works alongside the Principal Investigator to co‑facilitate the Service Learning Student Leadership Program.

The College Corps program supports 60–70 Fellows who provide 450 hours of service over an academic year in exchange for $10,000 in educational support. Most Fellows work in K‑12 settings to support youth in civic engagement, academic support, and social emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual or group mentorship to first‑year College Corps Fellows and ~15 Service Learning Student Leaders and College Corps Pod Leaders through meetings.
  • Mentor cohort in peer support skills, including active listening, time management, social justice/principled leadership, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Facilitate/co‑facilitate weekly program meetings (leading reflections and facilitating dialogues about critical community issues) with attention to team building between college corps pod leaders and service learning student leaders.
  • Coordinate with community partners and student leaders to improve infrastructure, training, mentoring, procedures, onboarding, and recognition of service learners and College Corps Fellows.
  • Coordinate timesheets and mileage reimbursements, ensuring timely submission for Service Learning Student Leaders and College Corps Fellows, and approve College Corps timesheet completion using AmericaLearns system.
  • Support Recruitment and Retention Specialist with coordination of documentation of files of all correspondence, reports, procedures, and presentations related to the College Corps program.
  • Collaborate with Service Learning Institute activities and programs by attending staff meetings, participating in outreach events, and contributing to the programs of the Institute.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Professional experience with first‑generation, low‑income youth and/or college students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with a variety of constituencies including K‑12 community partners, faculty, and college personnel.
  • Proven experience with service learning, experiential education, and/or civic engagement.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in student‑oriented success and mentorship.
  • Experience and knowledge of success practices with undocumented students and AB540 eligible students.
  • Experience in program development, program evaluation, grant management.
  • Understanding and analysis of challenges that impact first‑generation college students and low‑income students and how to develop leadership potential.
  • Experience in planning and facilitation training for students, staff, faculty, and/or community partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators and administrators in K‑12 settings, community partners in nonprofits, faculty, and university partners.
  • Strong leadership, team‑building, and group facilitation skills.
  • Skills in recruitment, social media, and outreach.
  • Skills in event planning, storytelling, use of creative arts in reflection.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills utilizing tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase representation, voice, and equitable treatment of underrepresented student, staff, faculty, and/or community groups and to advance the university goals of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.
Special Conditions of Employment

Sensitive Positions – This position has been designated as a sensitive position with responsibilities for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property; access to and responsibility for detailed personally identifiable Level 1 confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni; control over campus business processes through functional roles or system security access.

FERPA – Required to comply with confidentiality requirements under the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and California’s Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.

Clery Act – Designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Required to participate in training at the direction of the Clery Director and must also promptly report allegations of reportable crimes as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, its regulations; California State Education Code, Chapter 15.5; and CSU policy, Code EO 1107. CSAs are employees whose job duties fall upon campus security or reporting of criminal offenses.

Special License or Certifications and Conditions – May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work. Position is mandated reporter under California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with applicable CSU Executive Orders, including Title IX reporting requirements. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check per the California Fair Chance Act.
