Position Information

Job Title: Student Event Assistant

Appointment Type: Student Employee

Job Location: Oregon State University-Cascades, Bend, Oregon

Position Appointment Percent: 100%

Pay Method: Hourly

Min Hourly Rate: $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro)

Max Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro)

Position Summary: This recruitment will be used to fill a pool of six (6) part-time Student Event Assistants within the Chancellor and Dean’s Events Unit. This role offers students flexibility to choose events they are available for, generally requiring 0-5 hours of work per week. Tasks include moving furniture and event setup/cleanup. This is a pooled position posting—hiring is ongoing, as needed.

Position Duties
  • Event Setup and Cleanup: Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for events.
  • Event Support: Provide support during events including check-in, tours, assisting with catering or A/V, and general customer service.
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program.
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrate basic organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to be reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current full-time OSU-Cascades student or degree partnership student with OSU-Cascades and COCC with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.
  • Experience in event setup or related tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Possess an OLCC Alcohol Server License and Oregon Food Handler’s Card (may be completed within 30 days of hiring at the employer's expense).
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • This is a part-time (0-5 hours/week on average) position with a flexible schedule to accommodate class schedules.
  • Work involves physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment or materials, and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Work may be performed in various weather conditions.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Incumbents will be required to attend training on September 19, 2024.
Compensation

This position is paid at a standard rate of $17.00/hour, up to 20 hours/week during the academic year and 40 hours/week during breaks and summer.

Training

Students will be required to complete OSU’s online training. Job-specific training will be provided on September 19.
