Job summary

Lansing Community College’s Welding Technologies Program seeks a Student Employee to assist instructors and lab staff in the Welding Lab. The role is a pooled, on-campus position (West Campus) with duties to prepare and maintain the lab and ensure safety during class times.

The successful candidate will be a dependable, self-starting student in the Welding Program, able to work day or evening hours. Federal Work-Study eligible applicants receive priority consideration.

Qualifications

• Enrolled student in welding program with an interest in hands-on lab work.
• Minimum 2.00 GPA unless first semester or waiver granted by coordinator.
• Actively pursuing a certificate, associates, or undergraduate degree at Lansing Community College.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors and lab assistants during class times.
• Help prepare and maintain the lab before and after classes.
• Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors.
• Ensure lab safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Keep lab clean and properly prepared for each class.
• Assist in maintaining lab equipment and inventory supplies.
• Complete work requests for faculty and lab assistants.

Student employees in the Welding Technologies Program will assist instructors and lab assistants during class times and help prepare and maintain the lab before and after classes.

Duties include:

• Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors
• Ensure that lab safety procedures are followed at all times
• Ensure that the lab is clean, orderly, and properly prepared for each class
• Assist students, faculty, and lab assistants during class time as requested
• Assist in maintaining lab equipment
• Assist in inventorying and maintaining supplies for the lab
• Complete work requests for faculty and lab assistants
• Work with faculty and lab assistants on projects as requested
• Other responsibilities as needed

The successful applicant must be dependable, a self-starter, outgoing, fast learner, and able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ideal candidate will be a student in the Welding Program. This position may require daytime and evening hours.

Requirements for LCC Student Employment:

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters in which they are attending classes as follows:

• Enrolled and actively attending the following total LCC credit hours by semester
  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits minimum (taken over 16-week period)
  • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits minimum (taken over 8-week period)
• 2.00 GPA minimum (unless it’s student's first semester of enrollment at LCC and/or granted approval to waive requirement from the Student Employment Coordinator)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Actively pursuing a certificate, associates, or undergraduate degree at Lansing Community College

Note: International students (i.e., F-1 visa holders w/ valid I-20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS):

• Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits min. (taken over 16-week period)
• Summer Semester = 3.0 credits min. (taken over 8-week period)
