**Student Employee - Student Academic Advisor** **Position Summar**y Student employees are eligible to work on campus in a part-time capacity according to the Ensign College Student Employment Policy. In addition to fulfilling this purpose, each employee continuously strives to bring about the mission of Ensign College, which is to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ.Hours: 15–19 hours per week during the semester. The starting wage for all student employees is $14.00 per hour, with the possibility of a $0.25 rate increase each semester of continued work based on merit.**Summary** The Academic Advising Office exists to support Ensign College in its mission to “Develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ.” We achieve this by providing high-quality tools, resources, and experiences designed to support students in achieving college success. Academic Advising is a key resource and plays a critical role in the student journey. Student Academic Advisors support full-time Academic Advisors by assisting students in every aspect of their academic experience as part of an Advising Team. They work with prospective, current, and former students to help them understand certificate and degree offerings, identify the right program of study to align with professional or future educational goals, develop academic plans, check completion progress, clarify and uphold College policies and processes, connect students to resources for success, and act as trusted mentors to guide students on their path to achieving their academic and professional goals.**Essential Skillset** * Currently enrolled as an Ensign College student taking at least 6 credits and in good academic standing* Have and maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA* Successful completion of at least one semester at Ensign College* Clear and concise verbal and written communication* Active listening and empathy* Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills* Social perceptiveness and high emotional intelligence* Detail-oriented and self-motivated* Collaborative and adaptable* Strong relationship-building skills* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment* Ability to learn and utilize Civitas and other technology quickly**Essential Job Functions** * Assist full-time Academic Advisors in supporting new, continuing, and returning students through first-year retention and persistence in their desired program, as well as timely graduation, through student engagement across various modalities, including in-person, virtual, individual, group, and online communication* Facilitate students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and working with them to develop appropriate goals and plans for success* Proactively reach out to prospective, current, and former students to advise them regarding program offerings, career and major exploration, course planning, and registration; educate students regarding graduation requirements* Assist students in finding solutions to everyday issues that could impede their college success by connecting them to other college or community resources* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)* Work closely with the assigned full-time Academic Advisor to ensure understanding and mastery of program offerings, course equivalencies and substitutions, prerequisites, and other related information* Understand and uphold college policies and help students do the same* Maintain accurate student academic files and advising records* Work closely with the assigned full-time Academic Advisor and the Registrar’s Office to ensure the accuracy of degree audits* Coordinate data compilation, statistical reports, and correspondence when requested **All student employees accept as conditions of employment that they will:** * Be currently enrolled as an Ensign College student taking at least 6 credits (3 per block) and in good academic standing.* Refrain from behavior or expression that seriously and adversely affects the college mission or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.* Act in accordance with the Church Educational System Honor Code and the Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations.* Comply with all college policies and procedures.* Commit to bring about the purposes of Ensign College.* Maintain these conditions of employment on an ongoing basis.
