University of Central Missouri (UCM) seeks Orientation Leaders to welcome new Mules and Jennies, guide them through Orientation, and share their campus experiences. Roles span Spring training and a busy Summer schedule with specific dates, requiring reliability and strong communication throughout the transition to the university.

Leaders will engage families, lead activities, and help build a welcoming community that reflects UCM's commitment to service and student success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Completed at least one full semester/year on campus.
• Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills.
• Reliable availability for training and all orientation dates, including summer/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Welcome incoming students and families with Mule pride.
• Serve as the family’s main point of contact throughout Orientation—answer questions and provide guidance.
• Share your UCM experience to help students picture themselves thriving here.
• Lead student session activities.
• Build community among incoming students through conversation and shared discovery.
• Ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered at the start of their journey.
• Offer tips, resources, and real talk about what it means to be a successful Mule.
• Encourage involvement, engagement, and confidence as they prepare to start classes.
• Assist in the smooth operation of Orientation.
• Provide campus directions, lead walking groups, and maintain a positive, energetic presence.

Job description

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are the spirited student leaders who bring UCM’s mission of Education for Service to life and help new Mules and Jennies see how UCM is committed to Redefining What’s Possible. OLs play an essential role in welcoming incoming freshman and transfer students and their families, guiding them through Orientation, answering questions, and helping them confidently step into their next chapter. As an Orientation Leader, you will be responsible for helping support students as they transition to UCM. Orientation Leaders are hired for the Spring and Summer of 2027, with the bulk of the work being in the Summer. The Spring semester will consist of training sessions and a few training events that will be required (we will work around class schedules). During the Summer, you will be required to work May 21, June 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, July 29, and 30, and August 11. You must be available for all of these dates in order to be considered for the role.

Duties Include:

• Welcome incoming students and their families with genuine Mule pride.

Education:

• High School Diploma

Experience:

• Completed at least one full semester/year on campus (so they know the institution firsthand)
• Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills
• Reliable availability for training and all orientation dates (including summer/weekends if applicable)
• Positive, approachable demeanor and ability to work with diverse populations of new students and families

Working Hours and Days

Spring Semester consists of weekly training sessions, but the bulk of the work directly with students will take place during the Summer. You will need to plan to be in Warrensburg for the following dates: June 10-12, June 17-19, July 29 & 30, August 11.
