Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student.
  • Some food service or coffee shop experience is desired but not required.
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle cash and operate POS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain presentation and provide professional, courteous attitude toward customers and staff.
  • Adhere to Davenport University Code of Conduct.
  • Work with Dining Services staff to deliver high-quality service and products.
  • Follow sanitation requirements and health department guidelines.
  • Handle dishes and cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Efficiently operate a cash register and collect payments as needed.
  • Perform inventory management duties when required.
  • Food production and preparation as needed.
  • Prepare concession food for events.
  • Assist customers with information requests.
  • Maintain confidentiality of documents.
  • Clean up after events and postings.
  • Post daily menus and maintain social media pages.
  • Record data in Google Sheets.
  • Design and print posters and bulletin boards.
  • Brainstorm promotion ideas and help set up dining promotions.
  • Provide excellent customer service and uphold university values.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable regulations.

(Student) Dining Services Assistant (student position)
WORK LOCATION

Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus

DEPARTMENT

Dining Services

TARGET HIRING RANGE

$13.73 hourly

Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.

SUMMARY

The position will require work in many aspects of dining services, including but not limited to preparing food, customer service, cleaning, cashier duties, and catering. Positions assigned based on employee availability and work experience. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision and cultural values.

Dining Hall Front of House

This position will operate the cash register and will work with the Dining Hall employees to keep the scramble area cleaned and organized. This position will also assist with maintaining a clean dining room as well as doing dishes and other food service operations as needed.

Dining Hall Kitchen Assistant

This position will work with cafeteria employees doing general kitchen work including washing dishes, food preparation, stocking, cleaning, and helping in the scramble and seating areas.

Panther Den Retail Assistant

This position will work with the Panther Den Staff to take orders, prepare food orders and operate the cash register. Student employees will also assist with food prep, stocking, cleaning duties, dishes and general kitchen work.

HUB Cafe/Concessions Assistant

This position will work in the coffee shop and concessions stands to take orders, prepare food orders, and operate the cash register. This position will also assist with food preparation, stocking, cleaning duties, washing the dishes, other kitchen work, and event help (as necessary) in concessions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Must maintain a high level of presentation, enthusiasm for customer service and provide professional, courteous, and pleasant attitude toward all coworkers, students and staff.
  2. Adhere to the Davenport University Code of Conduct.
  3. Work with Dining Services Supervisors and staff to provide customers with the best service and quality product.
  4. Follow the sanitation requirements of food services and Kent County Health Department.
  5. Do dishes and cleaning projects as assigned by supervisors.
  6. Efficiently operate a cash register and credit card machine when needed.
  7. Perform inventory management duties when needed.
  8. Food production and preparation.
  9. Prepare concession food for customers during events.
  10. Be able to answer customer requests for information.
  11. Handle documents while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  12. Clean the area when events are complete.
  13. Post daily menus, online and in paper
  14. Maintain DU Dining social media pages
  15. Record trafficking data in google spreadsheets.
  16. Design and print posters and various documents.
  17. Design and post bulletin boards
  18. Brainstorm promotion ideas
  19. Help set-up and run dining promotions.
  20. Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
  21. Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
  22. Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Some food service or coffee shop experience is desired but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Should be able to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Business office/Foodservice environment. Prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Use of computer (eye and hand strain). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
