Job summary

La Causa, Inc. Charter School in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a School Substitute Teacher for grades K5–8. This full-time, 10-month contract role provides developmentally appropriate instruction and maintains a structured classroom to support student success.

Qualified candidates hold a related Bachelor’s degree and a Wisconsin DPI license or be eligible for an emergency license within 30 days. Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable and a strong emphasis on cultural responsiveness is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license in the applicable area or ability to obtain an emergency license within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with families and/or classroom experience required.
• Bilingual Spanish and English highly desirable.
• Ability to demonstrate cultural intelligence and work respectfully with diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Highly developed organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must complete TB and drug testing, physical examination, and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of program curriculum according to policies.
• Administer multi-level assessments as applicable to instruction.
• Follow all legal, organizational, and educational standards.
• Implement instructional activities for the assigned grade level.
• Develop and submit lesson plans as directed.
• Maintain a safe, supportive classroom environment.
• Ensure student safety and respond to drills and emergencies.
• Establish positive communication with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate cultural responsiveness when working with diverse groups.
• Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities for child abuse.
• Attend meetings, training, and professional development.
• Collaborate as a team member.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
