Reporting to the Director of the Career Learning Lab, the Associate Director serves as the key link between the Career Learning Lab and academic departments campus-wide — partnering with faculty, program coordinators, advisors, and employer-facing colleagues to prepare students for paid, career-aligned experiential learning.
In this role, you'll build and lead a team of career industry advisors while cultivating strong relationships with Department Chairs, Faculty, Internship Coordinators, Academic Advisors, Program Directors, and leaders across Honors, Research, and Undergraduate/Graduate Programs. You'll work closely with academic leadership to identify and engage students for internships, apprenticeships, entry-level roles, fellowships, co-ops, capstone projects, and other applied learning opportunities.
You'll also serve as a bridge between the classroom and career readiness — learning departments' curricula, student skill sets, and career pathways inside and out, then finding creative ways to weave employer engagement and career development directly into academic life, from classroom presentations to industry-sponsored projects.
Build relationships with students beginning early in their academic careers and maintain engagement throughout their career development journey.
Serve as a key Career Learning Lab partner to faculty and academic departments in connecting students to career and workforce opportunities.
Build strong partnerships across the college to expand awareness of and participation in internship and employment opportunities. Develop relationships with: student organizations, professional associations, cultural organizations, graduate and undergraduate programs, career advisors, peer mentors and other student success and academic support units. Collaborate with campus partners to identify students, communicate opportunities, and increase engagement in career development, internships, experiential learning, and employment pathways. Cultivate relationships across the college to expand and strengthen the student talent pipeline.
Develop and maintain centralized talent pools and sourcing systems that enable the College to respond efficiently to employer workforce needs. Organize and maintain student talent information by: Industry, skills, career Interests, graduation timeline, career readiness, internship eligibility, academic program, and relevant certifications or credentials. Develop recurring candidate pipelines for employers with annual or recurring hiring needs. Establish processes for identifying, segmenting, engaging, and referring students based on employer requirements and workforce demand. Monitor pipeline health and identify gaps in student representation, readiness, or engagement. Work collaboratively with the Manager of Employer & Staffing Partnerships to ensure employer opportunities are translated into targeted student sourcing and recruitment strategies.
Collaborate with Career Advisors and other Career Learning Lab colleagues to ensure students identified for talent pipelines are prepared to successfully compete for opportunities. Support students in developing: professional resumes, LinkedIn profiles, Interview readiness, career readiness competencies, required certifications and credentials, employer-specific preparation, and professional communication and workplace expectations. Develop targeted preparation strategies for students participating in employer recruitment processes, internship programs, and experiential learning opportunities. Create and support student career workshops and preparation activities aligned with employer and industry needs.
Partner with employer-facing colleagues to strengthen the connection between academic learning and workforce opportunities.
Develop and maintain systems to monitor the effectiveness and health of the college's student talent pipelines. Track and report on: faculty partnerships, academic department partnerships, student referrals, candidate pools developed, student engagement, employer matches, interview conversion, student placements, internship participation, experiential learning participation, student pipeline health, career readiness, and employer hiring needs and trends. Assess student sourcing and engagement strategies and recommend enhancements based on participation, placement and employment outcomes. Use data and labor-market information to identify opportunities to strengthen academic partnerships, expand talent pools, and improve student-to-employer matching.
Develops and manages career development programs and services in a College of Unit and assumes a leadership role in the design and delivery of creative approaches to career education and planning.
