Job summary

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) is seeking nine student assistants to support the Disability and Survivor Benefits division in applying CalSTRS laws and procedures.

This part-time, temporary, non-benefited student position requires enrollment in college and follows a hybrid work arrangement within California, with hours typically Monday–Friday, 7 AM–5 PM, and pay of $19.00–$22.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must complete each term with the minimum unit requirements for undergraduate and graduate student classifications, with proof collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
• Must be dependable, punctual, flexible, and able to follow directions.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with staff at various levels.
• Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Possess a good attendance record.
• Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Must have a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify documents for accuracy, completeness, and validity.
• Gather and analyze information to identify and locate the correct benefit recipients.
• Collect and compile data to determine the specific benefits payable.
• Communicate with clients to request necessary information and support timely case processing.
