Job Description and Duties

The CalSTRS Disability & Survivor Benefits Division seeks a motivated individual to serve as Pension Program Manager I in the Payment Review Unit.

The Disability and Survivor Benefits (DaSB) Division administers core benefits. Disability Services provides benefits to members who are unable to perform duties due to disability, and the Survivor Benefits Unit supports members and beneficiaries when they need CalSTRS support.

Under the general direction of the Pension Program Manager II, the Pension Program Manager I as Payment Review Manager plans, organizes, and supervises technical and professional staff within DaSB to audit benefit payments, ensuring timely and accurate processing for members and survivors. The PPM I also assists in the division’s strategic planning related to case management, production goals, training needs, legislative reviews and proposals, and work/process improvement.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

Minimum Requirements

Must have a current Staff Services Manager I Exam. Experience in pension law, and strong analytical and communication skills are required.

Compensation and Benefits

Employees may receive a 5% salary increase annually based on performance until maximum salary is reached.

In compliance with the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), this position will have a 3% monthly base pay reduction in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown do not reflect the reduced amounts.
