Job summary

Folsom Cordova Unified School District is seeking a Behavior Support Assistant to assist teachers in improving student behavior and educational opportunities. The role focuses on autism and emotional/behavioral disorders, with supervision and support for students in small groups or individually.

The assistant may be required to manage crisis situations, participate in training (including Pro-Act, ABA, and PECS), and lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; courses in psychology, sociology, recreation or related fields preferred but not required.
• A.A. degree, 48 units beyond high school or successful completion of the District Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test.
• Willingness to complete such training and use non-violent behavior intervention, emergency interventions and physical restraint techniques.
• Training in crisis intervention, ABA, pivotal response training, Floortime, PECS highly desirable.
• Must complete Pro-Act Training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher or behavior analyst to improve student behavior and adaptive functioning.
• Supervise students and support instructional tasks, may work without constant supervision.
• Assist in autism and ED programs with children 0–22 in small groups or individually.
• Manage crisis situations and provide supervision as needed; assist with movement and restraint with support.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

A.A. degree or 48 units beyond HS diploma

Willingness to complete training

Pro-Act Training within 6 months

Training in crisis intervention ABA; Floortime; PECS

First Aid/CPR Certificate (in-person)
