Job summary

Avon Public School in Arizona is seeking a dedicated Behavior Intervention Specialist to support students in a 10‑month program with a 35 hour work week. You will work under the direction of a special education teacher to assist students in a variety of settings and develop effective behavioral strategies to help them succeed.

The role requires CPI and First Aid/CPR certifications, a high school diploma, and the ability to pass background checks.

Qualifications

• Preferred experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled students in school or related settings.
• Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.
• Must be able to pass a background check upon employment.
• CPI certification (district offered).
• First Aid and CPR training certification (district offered).

Responsibilities

• Work intensively with students who struggle to function in the classroom and address behavioral/emotional issues.
• Communicate reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
• Maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• Maintain First Aid and CPR training certification.
• Assist in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
• Assist teachers in the classroom with disruptive or off-task students.
• Prepare or assist in logs, reports, files, and reviews.
• Escort children to bus, time-out, nurse's office, and across campus.
• Facilitate decision‑making and communication between students and teachers.
• Follow District policies and directives in a timely manner.
