Job summary

Avondale Elementary School District is seeking a Behavior Intervention Specialist to support students in a special education program. Under the supervision of the special education teacher, you will assist students with behavioral and emotional needs and help implement educational programs.

The role involves direct interaction with students, crisis intervention responsibilities, and coordination with staff to maintain a productive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled students.
• Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.
• CPI certification (offered at the district).
• First Aid and CPR training certification (offered at the district).

Responsibilities

• Work intensively with students who struggle to function in the classroom and address behavioral/emotional issues.
• Communicate reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
• Complete and maintain CPI certification.
• Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR training certification.
• Assist in developing educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
• Assist teachers by engaging with disruptive or emotionally in-need students to support progress in class.
• Prepare or assist in logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.
• Escort children to bus or nurse's office and around campus.
• Facilitate decision-making and communication between students and teachers.
• Follow district policies and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Behavior Intervention Specialist

I. General Description

Under the direction of the special education teacher, the behavior coach will provide assistance to children who are in a special education program.

II. Qualifications

• Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled/disordered students in a school, mental health, or hospital setting preferred
• Knowledge of child development concepts and practices
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card
• Crisis Prevention Intervention certification (offered at the district)
• First Aid and CPR training certification (offered at the district)

III. Duties And Responsibilities

• To work intensively with those students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and to immediately deal with individual student behavioral/emotional problems.
• Communicates reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
• Completes and maintains Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• Completes and maintains First Aid and CPR training certification.
• Assists in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
• Assists teachers in the classroom by interacting with students who are disruptive, off task, or exhibiting other emotional needs, which are interfering with the student's progress within the classroom.
• Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.
• Escort children to the bus, time-out, the nurse's office, and across campus.
• Facilitate decision-making and communication between students and teachers.
• Follows District Policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Alternative school teacher(s) and/or Alternative School Coordinator

Calendar:

10 Months; 40hrs/week
